Learners Long for Human
Interaction
A study by International
Data Corporation cites "the lack of human
interaction" as the most often cited reservation
to Internet-based training. Although focused on
the corporate training market, the report has
implications for academia as well, because it
reflects a common misconception about the online
classroom.
Experienced online educators
know that well-facilitated online discussions,
chats, emails, and even surveys can give
participants a powerful experience of human
interaction. You use the Internet without
interaction at your own peril.
The IDC
report says "online mentoring and support" is one
of the three top services to request when
selecting e-learning providers. (Source: IDC -
